Katarina Popović Midžina was the author of the Big Serbian Cookbook.

She grew up in a wealthy and well known family in Novi Sad and the famous bookshop asked her to put together a cookbook that would help housewives to cook better. This cookbook was the first cookbook written in the language spoken in the street and understandable to everyone. She presented recipes she tried herself and she used notes and remarques used by her mother and her friends. She explained ways of serving, decorating food and organising dinners and receptions. Today, this cookbook represents a testimony of the life in Vojvodina at the turn of the century and had 8 issues all together.

Details on Katarina’s life are hard to find. Interesting fact is that she was an amateur actress.
