Marta was the first Serbian woman who finished high school.

She grew up in a rich and well known family. Her father, who was influential and who was a benefactor of many Serbian schools managed to put Marta into educational, high school, system of the time. Marta finished the first Serbian high school in Novi Sad that was strictly reserved for male students. Many decades after Marta finished her high school education, only men attended it. She studied latin, rhetorics, syntax (1755/56) and poetic (1756/1757).

There are not to many information on Marta’s life, as one could expect. We know that she got married – what was considered late back in the day late – with 25 years. It is assumed that her being educated was an obstacle to get married earlier or because she could choose her own husband. She was married to an educated trader.
